"15 Minutes" of Fame

Part of my job as a school librarian is to scout out the greatest new things for you guys to read. This book has been at the top of many of the lists that I've read lately. Lo and behold, it was selected as our Book of the Day recently. It was very nice of Alek, in Mrs. Leslie's class, to select a book that also color coorindates with our signs. :-) If you have a book that you would like to be Book of the Day, just let me know next time you visit the Library Media Center.

Heartland - Books that need no promoting!

The Heartland series has been a very popular set of books this year in our library media center. As a matter of fact, in our very last shipment of books that we received yesterday, we got Season of Hope which was a special edition written into the series. Something fun that I ran across when I was reading about the author, Lauren Brooke, was this website that has some fun activities to go with the books. I also discovered that she writes another series called Chestnut Hill. I'm going try my best to make sure all you horse lovers have a chance to read them next year!

Meet Joey!

I've been wondering why the readers at PHIS haven't discovered Joey Pigza. I guess I haven't done a very good job introducing this series by the author Jack Gantos. So readers, meet Joey! This is a series of books that I first learned about on a web site called guysread.com. Guys Read is a website that you should visit even if you are not a guy! There are lots and lots of reading suggestions there, most of which, I'm glad to say, are in our library and would be good reads even for our "chicks."

Thank you, Rachel

A few months ago, Rachel in Mrs. Williamson's class won a book for a promotion in the library (Sorry, Rachel...I can't remember why!) and she chose "The Invention of Hugo Cabret." A few days passed and she came back through the Library to tell me that she had read and LOVED the book. I felt very happy for her, but kept putting it off because it looked....I don't know....weird. I think that lots of kids feel the same way and put off reading it. Well, don't!!! It is fantastic! Of course, it has won several awards this year, including the Caldecott. I've been recommending it to everyone since, and I keep hearing wonderful things about it from the kids at Pleasant Hill Intermediate School....the other day it was Megan from Mrs. Leslie's class that said "Hugo Cabret was great!" as she passed through. So RUN, don't walk, to get a hold of this one!
